Good morning!

We are in the midst of winter in Australia.

The mornings are cold, with frost and fog about.

Heaters are going full blast. Scarves and boots are out. So are beanies and gloves :).

It is hard to keep the garden looking shipshape when it is cold and frosty.

Hopefully your garden has plants which can bear the cold winters and hot summers of Canberra or which ever region/country you might live in.

Do you enjoy gardening?

Gardening can be a very relaxing and therapeutic activity and it is very rewarding too, if you can keep your plants alive 😉

I love my garden. Even though I do not get enough time to work on it, I try to do a little bit of gardening regularly.

Let’s have a look at how we can use Feng Shui in our garden and benefit from it.

Now, the most important thing to remember is that Feng Shui is all about energy.

And in each house or building, the energy enters through the man gate and then enters the building through the main door.

So, the first step would be to make sure that the area near the main gate and main door is kept clean and made welcoming.

If you have a garden in front of your house then you should consider yourself lucky as you can create a little haven for the energy to settle in, and bring good luck to you and your family.

If you don’t have a garden, you can still apply some of the Feng Shui principles that I have discussed here and benefit from it 🙂

  • Make sure the main gate and main door area is always kept clean
  • The path leading to the main door from the gate should be meandering, giving the energy time to slow down and become benevolent
  • Add garden features around the path and around your garden to lift the energy
  • Some examples of garden features which are commonly used in Feng Shui are – Water features, wind chimes, whirly windmills, statues etc.
  • The plants should be healthy. Get rid of rotting or dying plants
  • Place garden furniture strategically so that the energy wanders around it too.
  • Do not have the back of the garden bench towards the main gate
  • The same rule applies to swings and other play equipment
  • You can use the five elements to enhance your garden
  • Use more plants and Wood element in the East, Southeast and South
  • Use more Metal element in the North, Northwest and West
  • Use more Earth element in the Southwest, Northeast and centre of the garden area
  • Use Fire element in South, Southwest and Northeast
  • Use Water element in North, East and Southeast

When you use the principles of Feng Shui and these five elements in your garden, you create a balance of energy there and that balanced energy starts bringing good fortune and more opportunities to you.

You can apply these principles in your balcony or near the entrance too.

Just work out the directions and then use the right element there.
