We have talked about our office space and how we can optimise our work life by following some simple Feng Shui rules.

Today, I am going to talk about how to improve your personal life by applying simple principles of Feng Shui in your bedroom and your whole house as well.

By using these tips you can make your bedroom (and your whole house!) a space where you can rest and recuperate after a long days work.

When we apply Feng Shui in our home, we look at all the rooms and work on improving all of them. You can start following the principles of Feng Shui in each room, one by one, and improve the quality of your life immensely.

Rooms which are not being used regularly can become too Yin. Make sure you air them regularly and keep them clean. Open up the windows and let the sunshine in, this way you will introduce the much needed Yang energy to the space.

Rooms which are used regularly actually play a very important role in our lives. Because we spend so much time in these rooms, the energy of these rooms have more impact on us. Hence, we need to make sure that we follow the basic Feng Shui guidelines and create a more conducive and nourishing environment for ourselves and our loved ones.

Before we go into the do’s and don’ts of bedroom Feng Shui, I would like you to remember that a lot of Feng Shui is actually based on a common sense approach.

It is common sense to keep our space clean.

It is common sense to throw things out which have started rotting or we don’t need anymore.

Just use your own judgement and have a look around your home. Do you see things that need fixing? If you can fix it, then do so. If you think it has served its purpose and you do not need it anymore, then let it go. You can donate it or sell it.

Now let’s get into the Feng Shui tips for your bedroom. These tips can be applied to each and every room of your house. Just follow your instinct and get going.

  1. Make sure there is no clutter in the bedroom. Our body is extremely vulnerable when we are asleep, so make sure that the energy around you is healthy and clean.
  2. The space under the bed should be kept clean as well, this allows the chi/energy to circulate easily.
  3. Try and have a solid wall behind the bed head. The bed head should also be solid.
  4. Avoid placing the bed between two doors. So, if you have an ensuite/attached bathroom in your room then make sure that your bed is not placed between the door of the bedroom and the ensuite door. If there is no room to change the position of the bed then you can remedy this situation by placing a curtain on the ensuite door. This is also a good way of symbolically getting rid of the negative energy of the bathroom.
  5. Do not place your bed directly facing the door. Sleeping with your head or feet towards a door is considered very inauspicious in Feng Shui. This position is also known as the death position and should be avoided at all costs. If you do not have room to move the bed then try and place a piece of furniture or a sheer fabric at the foot of your bed so that you slow down the energy coming in towards your bed.
  6. Try not to place the bed head under a window either. If you are stuck for space then make sure you use thick curtains or blinds to cover the windows and make sure you close the blinds/curtains at night.
  7. Avoid sleeping under a beam as it will harm your health and relationship as well. This goes for book shelves as well. If there is a book shelf right above your bed head then try and remove it, or move your bed away from it, so that you are not sleeping directly under it. You can try cover up the beam by using a pretty fabric and make it look like a nice feature.
  8. Do not sleep near a pillar or post. If you have protruding corners in your room then you need to cover them up. You can hang a wind chime or a crystal at the top of the corner, to negate its effect. You can place an artificial plant there of use a fabric to cover it up.
