Let’s talk about second hand clothes and hand-me-downs today!

For those of you who have been following my blog would by now have a sense of how Feng Shui works, and how it would look at hand-me-down clothes.

What do you think the answer will be? Before you read on, take a minute and think about it and leave a comment to let me know what your thoughts were.

Will Feng Shui be favourable towards second hand clothes, or will it be averse to it?

As you know, Feng Shui is all about the energy of a space or object.

When we look at clothes, the same principle applies.

When you buy new clothes, they are fresh and have a positive energy to it. You should always wash the clothes before wearing them for the first time so that you get rid of the energy of the workers and factory handlers etc.

When growing up, we never wore hand-me-downs, funnily enough not even of my own sisters’. Mum always bought us separate sets of clothes and that became a habit. We did bend the rules a little when we were in college, and started sharing clothes as it meant doubling our wardrobe 😉

This habit has stayed on and I still don’t go looking for clothes through antique shops or Op shops. And, I still try and wash new clothes before wearing them for the first time, but not always 😉

When you buy second hand clothes or wear hand-me-downs, they come with the energy of the person who wore those clothes. If the clothes are in pristine/good condition, then it is ok to wear them, but if they look sad and worn out, then try not to use them. You don’t want them to effect the energy of the wearer .

And, before or if you wear these clothes make sure you clean them thoroughly, get them dry cleaned if needed, or just wash them well and let them be in the sun for few hours. By doing so, you are getting rid of the energy of the previous owner.

The other thing that effects these clothes is the way they are stored and the place they are stored in. Usually, when things are kept piled up for a long time, they get too much yin energy attached to them. Airing and washing these clothes well will help remove the yin energy as well.

Keeping clothes and objects clean and fresh ensures that the energy around you stays fresh as well, which in turn means you stay more energetic.

So, if you are looking at buying clothes, new or second hand ones, just keep these tips in mind and you will enjoy good energy.

Happy bargain hunting 🙂

Cheers.
